All the way from Finland!

May 4, 2011 by Yick Company · View Comments

Today, we’re excited to share a customer success story from Finland.

Earlier this year, a gentleman contacted the Robert Yick Company about fabricating a Chinese Wok Range.  He planned to open a Chinese restaurant in Finland and needed a 6-bowl wok range & a rice cooker table.  After searching online, he came across the Robert Yick Company and followed-up with us by email.  Soon after, he visited our office in San Francisco, where he met with Joe and brought some sketches for inspiration.

Robert Yick Company built a customized version of the wok range.  We transported the fully assembled products to Finland by ship.  The wok range & rice cooker table arrived in Finland in one piece.

We absolutely loved working with this Finnish gentleman!  It is always a great pleasure and an exciting experience to do business with clients across the world.

Recap: working with Cowgirl Creamery

At the Ferry Building in San Francisco’s Embarcadero, you’ll inevitably run into the Cowgirl Creamery – a bustling scene where people stop to admire, taste, and purchase artisan cheese. The Cowgirl Creamery has a fantastic vision: they make hand-crafted cheese using local organic milk and practice environmentally responsible small-scale cheese production. Oh, and did we mention the cheese is delicious?

Robert Yick Company had the pleasure of working with the Cowgirl Creamery Cheese Shop (inside the Ferry Building).  We built the custom stainless steel tables. Unfortunately we didn’t take an installation photo, so we posted the pre-shipment photo. Currently the stainless table is wrapped in  white protective coating and sealed for shipping.

The Cowgirl Creamery is located at 1 Ferry Building #17, San Francisco. For more information, please visit: www.cowgirlcreamery.com

Situated among Steiner street’s famous eateries in the Marina, Chotto offers a tasty 8-section selection of Japanese dishes. A long bar lines the left side of the restaurant, which also displays its fresh oysters on-ice.  Our favorite plates were the bacon mochi, the saba mackerel, and the ramen to finish off the meal. We loved the quick service – especially since we ordered so many dishes – and the beautiful aesthetics.

Sol Food: a San Rafael Treat

March 17, 2011 by Yick Company · View Comments

It’s been a while since our last blog post, so we want to kick-off the new year with one of our favorite restaurants: Sol Food (on Lincoln street)

From the day Sol Food opened its doors, this Puerto Rican restaurant created a food frenzy in San Rafael. A bustling atmosphere, loyal customers, and long lines are characteristic of the brightly-colored restaurant. The hype is well-deserved: 700+ reviews on Yelp serve as a testament to Sol Food’s delicious cuisine and popularity. We’re big fans of the plantains, especially the Mariquitas – thinly sliced, fried crispy plantains.  Even the rice is delicious!

Robert Yick Company worked on the Sol Food kitchen from October through February.

Here’s what we made & installed:

  • stainless steel tables: chef prep tables and regular tables
  • pot sinks
  • lowboy stock pot range
  • countertops, exhaust systems
  • shelves
  • stainless steel wall lining

Sol Food is located at 901 Lincoln Avenue, San Rafael. For more information, visit: www.solfoodrestaurant.com

Chinatown YMCA

September 5, 2010 by Yick Company · View Comments

Robert Yick Company recently finished a project that has long been close to our hearts: the YMCA of San Francisco in Chinatown.  The Yick family has a long history with the YMCA, dating back to the 1940′s when the Yick family helped build the Chinatown YMCA.  Joe Yick (owner of Robert Yick Company) took swim lessons at the Chinatown YMCA as a child. Today, he continues to be a lifetime member.  We are proud to contribute to an organization that is so vital to Chinatown’s community. Both Robert Yick Company and the Chinatown YMCA have operated in San Francisco for 100 years.

Robert Yick Company designed, fabricated, and installed the YMCA’s kitchen.

We created several custom items:

  • island cooking station
  • island prep station
  • 2-bowl wok range
  • stainless steel wall lining
  • hood.

Working with Alioto’s Restaurant

August 2, 2010 by Yick Company · View Comments

Robert Yick Company has been fortunate to work with Alioto’s, an old-time San Francisco restaurant located in Fisherman’s Wharf. To this day, it remains a family business that has stayed true to it’s roots: fresh fish. The restaurant, which has a great view of the San Francisco harbor, serves delicious Italian seafood. One of our favorite dishes is the Clam Chowder with sourdough bread on the side.

Robert Yick Company made the stainless steel equipment for Alioto’s soup station, crab station, dishwashing area, and coffee station. In addition, we fabricated some special items, such as: an angled sink and a wine storage with perforated doors. View pictures below.

Alioto’s is located at 8 Fisherman’s Wharf (near Jefferson Street & Taylor Street), San Francisco. For more information, visit www.aliotos.com.

Heaven’s Dog

Now Open: Heaven’s Dog

In January 2009, Charles Phan opened his latest culinary venture – Heaven’s Dog – on the ground floor of the SOMA Grand building. Phan, the owner and executive chef of San Francisco’s beloved Vietnamese restaurant The Slanted Door, collaborated with chef Andy Wai to create a menu dedicated to “Northern Chinese cuisine.” Heaven’s Dog divides the space into three areas: a noodle bar, a full bar & lounge, and the main restaurant. Creative cocktails aptly complement the Chinese dishes, which are made with organic vegetables and local meats.

Robert Yick Company built custom equipment for the kitchen, bar, and dishwashing areas. For food preparation, Robert Yick Company fabricated: wok ranges, commercial hoods, chef preparation tables, shelves, and pasta pots. In addition, Robert Yick Company built sinks, shelves, and other stainless steel equipment for the dishwashing and cleanup area. We also bought and installed refrigeration, fryers, stoves and ice machines. View photos below

Heaven’s Dog is located at 1148 Mission Street (inside the Soma Grand), San Francisco. For more information, visit www.heavensdog.com
