Since we’ve received a few questions about Home Wok Units, we wanted to share some answers with our readers. If you have more questions, leave a comment below or email us. Without further ado, here’s our question round-up!

1) What is the highest BTU rating you can use safely indoors with an average sized kitchen and normal ventilation?
The highest BTU rating you can safely use indoors is 30,000 BTUs for the home. 30,000 BTUs works well (and is safe) even without a pro ventilation system. We don’t recommend that you go above this level for a home kitchen.

2) Would your home wok unit work with residential gas line?
Yes, absolutely.

3) Is 30,000 BTUs too high for a home unit?
No, as long as it’s certified. Our home wok range units are CSA certified at up to 30,000 BTUs. Make sure that the wok has safety features in place. For instance, our Professional Home Wok Range (RYC #168) has several key safety features: 1) each wok is individually tested before shipment; 2) it uses an electronic ignition switch; and 3) it features a push-and-tern safety knob.

4) When will we see a video that showcases your home wok?

We stumbled across a wonderful YouTube video in featuring our home wok! In the CHOW video, Ruby Tom and her family cook a delicious stew using the Robert Yick Company drop-in home unit wok. Robert Yick Company built the exhaust hood, wall lining, and the counter top. Check out the video below and see how Ruby makes a fantastic meal.

Today, we’re excited to share a customer success story from Finland.

Earlier this year, a gentleman contacted the Robert Yick Company about fabricating a Chinese Wok Range. He planned to open a Chinese restaurant in Finland and needed a 6-bowl wok range & a rice cooker table. After searching online, he came across the Robert Yick Company and followed-up with us by email. Soon after, he visited our office in San Francisco, where he met with Joe and brought some sketches for inspiration.

Robert Yick Company built a customized version of the wok range. We transported the fully assembled products to Finland by ship. The wok range & rice cooker table arrived in Finland in one piece.

We absolutely loved working with this Finnish gentleman! It is always a great pleasure and an exciting experience to do business with clients across the world.

In the past few weeks, users have been posting comments & questions on our youtube videos. We’d like to thank you for asking questions and giving feedback. Our goal is to help people learn about chinese wok ranges and to offer useful information. Please continue to comment and ask us your interesting questions — we love having engaging conversations.

The hottest topic, by far, is the “home wok range.” Youtube viewers have asked us about: BTUs, cooking capabilities, and safety. Given the demand, we will roll out some videos about home wok units in the next few months.

Cowgirl Creamery: a Bay Area Gem

Recap: working with Cowgirl Creamery

At the Ferry Building in San Francisco’s Embarcadero, you’ll inevitably run into the Cowgirl Creamery – a bustling scene where people stop to admire, taste, and purchase artisan cheese. The Cowgirl Creamery has a fantastic vision: they make hand-crafted cheese using local organic milk and practice environmentally responsible small-scale cheese production. Oh, and did we mention the cheese is delicious?

Robert Yick Company had the pleasure of working with the Cowgirl Creamery Cheese Shop (inside the Ferry Building). We built the custom stainless steel tables. Unfortunately we didn’t take an installation photo, so we posted the pre-shipment photo. Currently the stainless table is wrapped in white protective coating and sealed for shipping.

Thank you for visiting our site — we truly appreciate it. For the past 3 years, we’ve shared photos, blog posts, projects, and interesting tidbits. As it turns out, you’ve been viewing our pictures, reading our blurbs, and watching our videos… and we could not be happier! We monitor this website using Google Analytics so we can understand to our audience & give you the best possible experience.

I wanted to share some fun findings about our visitors. Since you are such a fantastic, diverse collection of people, we thought you might enjoy hearing how other people use our site.

57 Countries: people viewed our site from 57 different countries. We’ve had visitors from Latvia, Brazil, the Philippines, Denmark, Sweden, and Chile… among many others!

Chinese Wok Ranges: our #1 page is our Chinese Wok Range. It’s the most visited page on yickcompany.com. PLUS, many visitors find us on Google by simply searching for Yick woks. Woks are great – we’re glad you like them.

iPads: It turns out that quite a few of you use iPads. iPads are our #1 source of mobile traffic, beating out the #2 iPhone (and all other phones, for that matter). Our visitors are gadget savvy (or Apple fanatics).

Google + Yickcompany: Visitors find our site through two ways: 1) searching for us on Google (“robert yick company”) or 2) skipping the middleman and heading directly to yickcompany.com. Either way, we’re just happy you found us.

Mac / PC: Our visitors are split down the middle when it comes to computers. It’s almost 50-50, with Mac slightly edging out PC for the operating system of choice.

Every day of the week: I sifted through data to understand what days of the week our visitors view our site. Good and bad news: there’s no pattern… you guys are all over the place! Our site gets viewed mostly Monday through Saturday, with high traffic spikes varying daily. Perfectly fine with us!

Since we made our first site in 2008 (it was rudimentary and roughly coded in HTML), we have learned a lot. JD Yick contributed some beautiful pictures, while our president has even snapped some great photos on his own. We even have a Twitter! We’re changing to match our customers, so feel free to leave us feedback and suggestions! Thanks for joining us on this ride. We’ll be rolling out some big changes in the next few months, so stay tuned!

Recap: working with Pasion restaurant in SF

Chef Jose Calvo-Perez opened Pasion – a restaurant offering modern Peruvian cuisine – in late 2010. Pasion is a wonderful family operation in the sunset district. Chef Jose takes great pride in Pasion’s Latin American-flavored food and lively atmosphere. We loved the wide selection of ceviches, which you can order from the “Ceviche Bar.”

Robert Yick Company worked with Pasion to build their kitchen.

We’re having a great time at Robert Yick Company, and we wanted to share what we’ve been doing. In the past year, we built equipment for some of the bay area’s best TECH companies, such as: Google, Zynga, Twitter, and VMware Fusion. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed these industrial-technology collaborations — what a fun partnership between manufacturing & new technology!

Recap: Robert Yick Company works with Chotto SF

Situated among Steiner street’s famous eateries in the Marina, Chotto offers a tasty 8-section selection of Japanese dishes. A long bar lines the left side of the restaurant, which also displays its fresh oysters on-ice. Our favorite plates were the bacon mochi, the saba mackerel, and the ramen to finish off the meal. We loved the quick service – especially since we ordered so many dishes – and the beautiful aesthetics.
